Universal has been recruiting several A-list actors to star in its monsters cinematic universe. Tom Cruise is headlining next year’s The Mummy reboot, which also features Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll. Additionally, Johnny Depp is attached to play The Invisible Man in his own film. Now, another big name is being sought for a key role.
According to Variety, Oscar winner Javier Bardem is in talks to play Frankenstein (or, more accurately, Frankenstein’s monster) in the monsters cinematic universe. The plan is for him to appear in another monster movie before starring in his own film. It’s unknown if that movie will be The Mummy (which is about to wrap production), Bride of Frankenstein, or something else entirely.
Bardem was previously approached to play Dr. Jekyll before passing on that role. Hopefully, things will work out for him to play Frankenstein instead.
Stay tuned for more news as we have it. Universal’s monsters cinematic universe formally kicks off with The Mummy on June 9th, 2017.
