MGM and Warner Bros. acquired the rights to co-produce the long awaited cinematic return of Lara Croft from GK Films, which previously purchased the film rights from Square Enix Ltd. in 2011. We now finally have word (via Deadline) on a release date for this anticipated adaptation of the classic Tomb Raider video games.
It is being reported that the film has been dated for March 16, 2018. This date was believed for quite some time to be reserved by Warner Bros. for The Flash, but it is now clear that the DC Comics adaptation is still in search of a release date. Tomb Raider, which stars Ex Machina‘s Alicia Vikander in the titular role, may coincide with the release of the next video game in the popular series, which was also rumored to be released around the same time.
We last saw the character on the big screen in 2003 when Angelina Jolie played the popular video game icon in Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. Stay tuned for more news on the reboot, which is simply titled Tomb Raider as of right now.
