After being removed from Universal‘s film schedule, the future of Legendary‘s Pacific Rim sequel was left in doubt. However, the film has seen some movement this year, with director Steven S. DeKnight and actor John Boyega coming on board. Now, a new release date has been confirmed.
Universal has announced (via The Wrap) that Pacific Rim 2 is set to hit theaters on February 23rd, 2018. Currently, the sequel has that date all to itself. It arrives one week after Marvel Studios’ Black Panther. John Boyega is producing the movie alongside Thomas Tull, Guillermo del Toro and Mary Parent.
Pacific Rim 2 is the latest tentpole to join Universal’s 2018 slate. The studio is also set to release Fifty Shades Freed, How to Train Your Dragon 3, Jurassic World 2 and more that year.
Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
