The cast of Marvel and Sony‘s Spider-Man: Homecoming is expanding, with the latest addition to the already impressive being relative unknown Michael Barbieri. The 14-year-old actor is perhaps most known for his role in the film Little Men, which received praise at Sundance, and will appear in The Dark Tower alongside Idris Elba.
After reportedly auditioning for the role of Peter Parker for this year’s Captain America: Civil War, Marvel was so impressed that they gave Barbieri a supporting role in Spidey’s upcoming solo flick. His role is described as “one of Peter Parker’s friends” by Heroic Hollywood, with more details on his role being provided by ComicBook.
The site says that Barbieri is playing a version of Ganke, who appeared in the Ultimate Comics as a friend of Miles Morales. “His affinity for Superheroes and unwavering optimism and support of his friend are his standout characteristics, which can be expected to be found in Barbieri’s new character.”
Tom Holland stars in Spider-Man: Homecomming, with other cast members including Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, and Michael Keaton as the big baddie. Jon Watts is directing. The movie is set for release on July 7th, 2017.
