Warner Bros. has made a few changes to its release schedule, and included are updates on the Godzilla franchise. The sequel to the 2014 reboot has been pushed back a few months, while a release date has been scheduled for the crossover film Godzilla vs. Kong. Plus, a DC movie has been delayed a month and a new event film from WB has been announced.
Via The Wrap, WB has announced that Godzilla 2 will now be released on March 22nd, 2019. This is a few months later than its initial June 8th, 2018 date. No reason was given for the delay, but the June 8th date was recently announced for a Transformers spin-off starring Bumblebee. So, that’s probably why.
Additionally, Godzilla vs. Kong is set to hit theaters on May 29th, 2020. The film will serve as a crossover between the new Godzilla franchise and 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, pitting King Kong against the King of the Monsters.
Meanwhile, WB has taken its untitled DC movie scheduled for June 19th, 2020 and delayed it to July 24th, 2020. This is only one month later than its original date, so it’s not a drastic delay. The film – expected to be the Green Lantern Corps movie – is now scheduled to open two weeks after an untitled Marvel Studios movie. [Via Watchtower of Babel News]
And finally, an untitled Warner Bros. event film will be released on December 25th, 2018. No further details on the movie were given. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
