For the past few months, Disney and Lucasfilm conducted an extensive search for an actor to play a younger Han Solo in the 2018 Star Wars spin-off. Literally thousands of actors were considered for the beloved role, made famous by Harrison Ford. Now, it looks like Solo will be played by none other than Alden Ehrenreich.
The news was originally broken by Page Six, with trades such as The Wrap verifying it. Ehrenreich reportedly “really impressed” Disney and Lucasfilm with his screen tests. The Hail, Caesar! actor is finalizing a deal now. Expect an official announcement to be made very soon.
The Han Solo movie, directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord, will focus on the character several years before encountering the Rebel Alliance. Chewbacca is also appearing in the spin-off. Rumor has it that Ehrenreich’s Solo will first appear in this year’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which would explain why he’s being cast now. Production for Han Solo doesn’t begin until January.
Stay tuned for more news as we have it. Han Solo hits theaters on May 25th, 2018.
