It is rumors galore for the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as more and more details start to come out. Just as we may have possibly learned who Felicity Jones is playing in the film, brand new potential story and character details were revealed. This time, MakingStarWars was the one that pieced together the story details but it is still unverified at this time.
“Mads Mikkelsen (Galen appears to be his name in the film) is kind of the key to the film in a way. He is a scientist that took over the Geonosian Death Star project. He solved several of the flaws the Empire could not and is sort of a revered person in the Empire for his contributions. However, Mikkelsen’s character is a Robert Oppenheimer-type character. Oppenheimer helped design the atomic bomb only to say, “Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.” The guilt “Galen” feels for his contributions to the Empire become too much and he defects, attempting to make things right. In order to do this, he enlists the help of his only daughter…. Felicity Jones’ character has to undo the devastation her family has unleashed onto the galaxy.”
Star Wars has always been a franchise about the middle area between good and evil and it appears that Mikkelsen´s character will continue this trend. Anakin Skywalker was pulled to the dark side, Luke was able to fight off the darkness inside of him, and most recently, Kylo Ren has felt a pull to the light. It is a relief that Mads is a playing somebody who isn´t entirely evil because we have gotten plenty of that and we will be getting that a month before the release of Rogue One in Doctor Strange.
The site went on to talk about Felicity Jones’ character and debunked the rumor that they released earlier this week. Evidently, Gabriele Fritz will not be doubling for Jones’ character so it appears that Lyra Erso is not Jones but could still be a different character in the film. They also say that Jones’ role was a bounty hunter type character in early versions of the script but the site claims that it may have changed and she could be a scientist (but they say that this is still unclear at this time).
UPDATE: Mads Mikkelsen has CONFIRMED that he is indeed playing the father of Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on December 16, 2016.
