Recently, star Robert Downey Jr. offered a long-awaited update on a third Sherlock Holmes film, suggesting that production will finally begin sometime this year. And now, things are moving forward, with a new screenwriter being brought on board.
According to Deadline, scribe James Coyne has been hired to rewrite the script for Sherlock Holmes 3. The script was previously written by Drew Pearce, who was hired to pen his draft in 2011. Coyne previously wrote a draft for Warner Bros.’ Treasure Island movie. His hiring for Sherlock Holmes 3 reunites him with the studio, along with director/producer Guy Ritchie.
Ritchie returns to direct Sherlock Holmes 3, while Downey and Jude Law will reprise their roles as Holmes and John Watson, respectively. No word yet on other cast members or a release date. But with the threequel moving forward, expect more news to come soon.
