The third Wolverine movie, which will mark Hugh Jackman‘s final performance as the clawed mutant, is now in pre-production. Patrick Stewart will return as Professor X, while Boyd Holbrook was recently cast as the film’s villains. Now, a new rumor suggests that a fan-favorite X-Men character will make her big screen debut in this movie.
According to SuperHeroHype, none other than Laura Kinney, aka X-23, will appear in Wolverine 3. In the comics, Kinney is a female clone of Wolverine, and she too has adamantium claws and a healing factor. She first appeared in the animated series X-Men: Evolution, before being brought to the comics in 2004. Most recently, she has replaced Logan as Wolverine.
According to SHH, X-23 will be joining Wolverine and Professor X on a “journey” in Wolverine 3. Beyond that, details on her role in the James Mangold-directed movie are unknown. But with pre-production underway and filming beginning next month, we should hear casting for X-23 soon, assuming that this rumor is true.
Personally, I’m excited to see X-23 on the big screen. She’s an interesting character, and it’s never a bad thing to add more strong female heroes to this franchise. And who knows, maybe she could end up filling the Wolverine role after Jackman steps down. There’s certainly precedence for it.
Wolverine 3 is set to hit theaters on March 3rd, 2017. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
