Release Date for ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel Moved Up to Fall 2017

The sequel to 1982’s Blade Runner is finally commencing production in July. The follow-up film will see Harrison Ford return as Rick Deckard. Joining him are newcomers Ryan Gosling, Dave Bautista and Robin Wright. The sequel will be directed by Denis Vileneuve. And now, Blade Runner 2 (not the final title) is coming out sooner than its initial 2018 release date.

Alcon Entertainment (via THR) has announced that the Blade Runner sequel is now hitting theaters on October 6th, 2017. This is a few months earlier than its original January 12th, 2018 date, and it puts the sequel in the midst of awards season. Currently, the only other film scheduled for 10/6/17 is an untitled Fox-Marvel movie.

Blade Runner 2 takes place several decades after the events of the first film. Beyond that, plot details are being kept under wraps. The film will be distributed by Warner Bros. domestically and Sony Pictures International overseas.

Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
