The franchise was thought dead after Kingdom of the Crystal Skull but evidently not! Disney has announced today that a fifth Indiana Jones movie is in the works. Director Steven Spielberg returns to direct the film, and actor Harrison Ford returns as titular character.
The studio released the following statement: “A fith epic adventure in the Blockbuster series, Steven Spielberg, who directed all four previous films comma will Helm the as-yet-untitled project with star Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role. Franchise veterans Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce.“
Alan Horn, chairman of Walt Disney Studios said the following “Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019. It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actors and roll, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”
It was said that Disney was looking to reboot the franchise with a younger actor, but Steven Spielberg said back in December that this wasn’t the case: “I don’t think anyone can replace Harrison as Indy, I don’t think that’s ever going to happen.” It seems that Mr. Spielberg is a man of his word.
Indiana Jones 5 will hit theaters July 19th, 2019.
