A film version of Ubisoft‘s video game franchise Assassin’s Creed, starring Michael Fassbender, will officially hit theaters on December 21st this year. The Justin Kurzel-directed movie is already generating much anticipation, and, if everything goes well, it could be the first truly great video game-to-film adaptation. Well, it looks like New Regency is so confident in the movie, a sequel is reportedly in the works.
According to The Tracking Board, New Regency is already planning an Assassin’s Creed sequel. Michael Fassbender is expected to reprise his role as Callum Lynch, as well as produce. Also on board as producers are Frank Marshall, Jean-Julien Baronnet and Conor McCaughan.
No word on whether Justin Kurzel will return to direct, nor on who is writing the script. It is also unknown if any of the other cast members from the first film, such as Marion Cottilard and Jeremy Irons, will return for the sequel.
Of course, these are very early plans. At this point, anything can happen. If Assassin’s Creed underperforms at the box office, then a sequel is not likely. But if this news is true, then it is a real sign of confidence from New Regency and co. in the movie. We’ll know for sure by the end of the year. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
