‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ to Begin Immediately After the Events of ‘The Force Awakens’

Production on Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII has officially begun with a small teaser revealing some new footage of Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley in the same spot they were seen last. Many thought that this was just recycled footage from The Force Awakens but in reality, it was confirmed on twitter by Executive Pablo Hidalgo that it was brand new.

Speaking with MTV at the Academy Awards, Ridley spoke about Hamill and the beginning of the next film.

Me and Mark [Hamill] have been rehearsing a lot, and it’s really amazing. When we went back to Skellig to do the opening of VIII, it was so crazy doing the same scene with a different crew of people. He’s amazing to rehearse with, and I’m very excited to be doing the rest of the stuff.

Bu saying that this is the same scene with different people, it appears that Episode VIII will take place right after The Force Awakens. However, the question at hand is how will this affect the opening crawl? It would have to be awfully short if the film truly opens right where we left off but I guess we will wait and see.

Star Wars: Episode VIII bursts into theaters on December 15, 2017.
