It was recently confirmed that 20th Century Fox will adapt Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, with Bryan Singer set to direct this fall. But Fox isn’t the only studio exploring this classic story, as Disney is developing a Captain Nemo film. That movie will tell the character’s origin. And now, a director has been hired to bring Nemo back to life.
According to Deadline, The Wolverine helmer James Mangold will direct Captain Nemo. The most recent draft is being written by Hotel Noir scribe Sebastian Gutierrez. Mangold is next directing Hugh Jackman’s final Wolverine movie, but he will shoot Captain Nemo sometime afterwards.
Disney previously told the story of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in the 1954 film, which starred James Mason as Captain Nemo.
