Last year, Universal removed Guillermo del Toro‘s planned Pacific Rim sequel from its schedule, leaving the film’s future in doubt. Del Toro later promised that the follow-up was still in the works despite being dropped from the studio’s schedule. And now, the sequel is moving forward – but without del Toro in the director’s chair.
According to Deadline, Spartacus creator and former Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight is set to helm the Pacific Rim sequel. The movie will mark DeKnight’s feature directorial debut. The most recent script was written by Jon Spaihts. Del Toro will produce Pacific Rim 2 alongside Mary Parent, Jon Jashni and Legendary Pictures‘ Thomas Tull.
This is surely unexpected news for some, and it offers some good news to those hoping to see the Pacific Rim story continued. Stay tuned for more as we have it.
