Release Date for Oliver Stone’s ‘Snowden’ Has Been Delayed Again

Director Oliver Stone‘s Snowden, a biopic about controversial NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden, was previously set to release on Christmas Day 2015, before being delayed to May 13th, 2016. Now, Open Road Films has pushed back the film again, just in time for awards consideration next season.

It has been announced (via The Hollywood Reporter) that Snowden will now hit theaters on September 16th, 2016. This puts the film at the beginning of awards season and allow it to qualify for film festivals, while also avoiding the blockbuster-heavy summer season.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as Edward Snowden in the film, which was written by Stone and Kieran Fitzgerald. The rest of the movie’s cast includes Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto and Nicolas Cage. Stay tuned for more news as we have it,
