Elizabeth Banks has been a busy lady lately. She’s coming off of playing Effie Trinkett in the ‘Hunger Games’ movies, voicing Wyldstyle in The Lego Movie, and directing Pitch Perfect 2 (which she also starred in) just to name a few of the more notable recent entries in her filmography. Now, she’ll get a chance to play a villain in next year’s Power Rangers film.
The Hollywood Reporter has gotten word that Banks will be playing classic Power Rangers villain Rita Repulsa, an evil humanoid witch bent on galactic domination, in the film.
Her character will be up against the Power Rangers, a quintet of teenagers with the ability to morph into super-powered warriors that can protect the world against alien invaders. Callum Oliver, Priya Patel, Brian Olson, Oscar Fernandez, and Teyana Jones will play the Rangers.
The film, produced by Lionsgate, will be helmed by Dean Israelite who previously directed last year’s found-footage time-travel film Project Almanac, while the writers of the upcoming Gods of Egypt Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (who previously wrote The Last Witch Hunter) pen the script.
Power Rangers is set to hit theaters March 24, 2017.
