A few months ago, we reported that Paramount was developing a new movie titled NickToons, which would unite a bunch of Nickelodeon characters from the 1990s in the ultimate crossover film. And now, the studio has hired a director and writers to take on the highly ambitious project.
According to Deadline, Jared Hess is set to direct NickToons for Paramount. He will also write the script with his wife, Jerusha Hess. This duo previously worked on Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, which Jared also directed. The idea for the film was conceived by Disruption Entertainment’s Ali Mendes, a lifelong fan of these animated characters.
Among the animated shows crossing over for NickToons are Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, Rocko’s Modern Life, Aaahh! Real Monsters and The Angry Beavers. Characters from all of these shows will join forces in a Who Framed Roger Rabbit-type original story, which Paramount hopes will spawn a new franchise.
This should be very exciting news for fans of old-school Nickelodeon, such as myself. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
