For the past several years, Sony Pictures has been trying to produce a new film based on Masters of the Universe, the beloved action figure line and animated series. The property was previously adapted in 1987’s live action movie, which was critically and commercially panned. Nevertheless, Sony still sees franchise potential with the brand. And now, a new director is being courted to take on the reboot.
According to Deadline, Terminator Salvation helmer McG is in talks to direct Masters of the Universe. If his deal closes, he will also oversee a rewrite of the script. The movie has seen a lot of writers tackle the property over the years, with Alex Litvak and Mike Finch penning the most recent draft. Also, back in August, Christopher Yost was hired to tackle the script.
With a director about to come on board, we’ll hopefully hear more about He-Man‘s next big screen adventure sooner than later. Stay tuned.
