‘The Mummy’ Reboot Moved to Summer 2017 Release; Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella Confirmed to Star

Ever since its announcement, Universal‘s reboot of The Mummy has changed its release date a few times. Originally set for an April 2016 release, it was later pushed to March 2017. Now, the studio has announced yet another delay for the reboot, which will officially kick off the Monsters Cinematic Universe. Additionally, the film’s two lead actors have been confirmed.

Universal has announced today (via Variety) that The Mummy is now set to hit theaters on June 9th, 2017. June 2017 is already a crowded month for blockbusters, with Wonder WomanDespicable Me 3World War Z 2 and more also slated to release that month.

Tom Cruise is set to star in The Mummy, while Sofia Boutella will play the titular monster. The movie will be directed by Alex Kurtzman, from a script by Jon Spaihts.

With a prime summer release date set, expect production on The Mummy to begin production soon.
