Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence is set to become of the youngest directors in Hollywood.
The 23 year-old actress most known for her role as Katniss Everdeen in the ‘Hunger Games’ series, won an Oscar for her performance in David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook, and followed that up with an Oscar nomination the very next year in 2013’s American Hustle, also directed by O. Russell.
Now, she’s ready to take a crack at directing. Lawrence will direct Project Delirium, a true story detailing a chemical experiment gone wrong.
Though Lawrence herself labels the movie as a comedy, the story the film is based on sounds far from it.
According to Deadline, the film will chronicle the military career of Col James S. Ketchum, a trained psychiatrist that raced the Soviets in the Cold War for psychochemicals to test that would give their soldiers temporarily incapacitated minds in the battlefield. As the general sypnosis suggests, this experiment didn’t go exactly as planned. The title comes from an article published in The New Yorker back in December, 2002.
Lawrence has said she doesn’t plan to be a part of the film’s cast. The film will apparently hire a writer in the next week. Lawrence will produce alongside Justin Ciarrocchi, Todd Wagner, and Ben Cosgrove.
A release date is currently unknown.
