Empire is one of the top entertainment magazines out there and is known for their amazing cover artwork. They’ve had a couple solid Star Wars: The Force Awakens covers before, but today they outdid themselves with 7 new ones which will feature 3D lenticulars! We’ve got the 6 collector’s covers as well as the subscriber exclusive cover featuring two fan favorite characters after the jump.
First up is Daisy Ridley‘s Rey and droid, BB-8. Rumored to be the main character of the new trilogy, Rey is a scavenger living on the desert planet of Jakku. She is armed with an interesting staff which could be more than meets the eye. BB-8 is a new type of astromech droid which belongs to Oscar Isaac’s pilot, Poe Dameron (we’ll see him later). Not much is known about BB-8 yet, but it’s super cute and we’re already in love with it.
Leader of the First Order’s Stormtroopers, Captain Phasma is still shrouded in mystery. Gwendolyn Christie (Game of Thrones) will bring this menacing character to life. Perhaps that sexy suit of chrome armor covers up a very loving and nice person?
John Boyega plays ex-Stormtrooper Finn. He was raised to believe that the First Order is on the side of right, but learns that he has nothing to fight for. Is Finn sensitive to the Force? It seems that way as he’s seen here wielding the Skywalker lightsaber. We’ve seen a glimpse of him engaging in a duel with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Let’s hope he makes it out alright…
Poe Dameron hasn’t really been prominently featured in much of the marketing materials or trailers so far. We’ve had brief glimpses of him piloting an X-Wing, patting Finn on the back – oh and getting tortured by Kylo Ren (Brain squeeze anyone?)! Oscar Isaac will play this ace pilot in The Force Awakens as the Rebels take on the First Order. The dogfights will definitely be a treat for the eyes!
Speaking of Kylo Ren, he’s featured on the next cover wielding his lightsaber of an ancient design. Adam Driver plays this member (perhaps the leader) of the most badass secret society in the galaxy, the Knights of Ren – a group who appear to be obsessed with Darth Vader. Kylo Ren wants to finish what Darth Vader and the Empire started and he will not let anyone stand in his way.
Han Solo and Chewbacca grace the 6th cover with weapons drawn. Star Wars fans are ecstatic that Harrison Ford is back along with his best friend and walking carpet, played by Peter Mayhew. Han and Chewie look like they will be mentors to newcomers Rey and Finn.
Finally, the exclusive cover Empire subscribers will be receiving. Our two favorite droids, C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) and R2-D2 (Kenny Baker), are back and have never looked better! Threepio has what appears to be a new arm, and judging by the color it looks like he may have spent some time within the ranks of the First Order – they are fond of painting things red. We have not seen much of R2-D2 in trailers except for that same shot where he’s with a mysterious, cloaked figure. Could it be Luke?
Which cover do you like the best? Let us know in the comments. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is in theaters on December 18th!
