Today, Paramount Pictures has updated its schedule for animated movies over the next few years. The next installment of the SpongeBob SquarePants film series now has a release date, Monster Trucks has been delayed yet again, and two other features have received official dates. Below is the rundown, courtesy of The Wrap.
- The Little Prince, an adaptation of the 1943 French novella of the same name, will hit theaters on March 18th, 2016. The novella has been adapted into other forms of art and media, but this is the first animated take on the story. The Mark Osborne-directed movie has an ensemble voice cast consisting of Mackenzie Foy, Jeff Bridge, James Franco, Paul Rudd, Benicio del Toro, Paul Giamatti, Ricky Gervais and others.
- Monster Trucks was originally slated for Summer 2015, before being pushed to Christmas. Then, the live action/CG hybrid movie was delayed to the March 18th, 2016 slot. But now, it has been rescheduled to January 13th, 2017. Directed by Chris Wedge of Ice Age fame, Monster Trucks stars Jane Levy, Lucas Till and Danny Glover, among others.
- After the success of The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, it’s no surprise that Paramount is moving forward with a third SpongeBob SquarePants film. Sure enough, the threequel is now slated to hit theaters on February 8th, 2019. Paul Tibbitt returns to direct this installment, and the voice cast from the previous films – Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence and Mr. Lawrence – are also coming back.
- Finally, we have a new release date for Amusement Park. Originally slated for 2017, the film is now scheduled for a March 22nd, 2019 release. The animated feature will be directed by Dylan Brown, who was an animation supervisor on films such as Finding Nemo. The voice casts consists of Matthew Broderick, Jennifer Garner, Ken Jeong and Mila Kunis, among others.
