After the huge success of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel Studios is set to begin production on a sequel, titled Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, early next year. James Gunn returns to write and direct the follow-up, while the first film’s principal cast – such as Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper – are set to reprise their roles. And now, the sequel is casting new characters.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, newcomer actress Pom Klementieff has been cast in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The character she’s playing is currently under wraps, but Marvel held a “wide” search and several rounds of chemistry readings to cast her. The sequel will mark Klementieff’s big break; her most familiar film was 2013’s Oldboy remake.
Meanwhile, Variety adds that Marvel and Gunn are also looking to cast the film’s villain. They reached out to none other than Matthew McConaughey for this part, but the Oscar winner unfortunately turned it down. So, the search continues for an actor to fill the villainous role, which is also currently unnamed. Expect an actor to be hired in the coming weeks.
Stay tuned for more news as we have it. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to hit theaters on May 5th, 2017.
