With Selma‘s Ava DuVernay passing and Straight Outta Compton‘s F. Gary Gray choosing to do Fast and Furious 8 instead, Marvel is still looking for a director for the upcoming Black Panther. According to HeroicHollywood, Marvel is pursuing Fruitvale Station director Ryan Coogler.
Coogler, who is in deep post-production on the Rocky spinoff Creed, makes perfect sense for Black Panther. Marvel has recently proved by hiring the likes of Taika Waititi and Jon Watts that they are looking for new, up-in-coming directors for their new films so Coogler fits right in. Also, early word that Creed is something really special does nothing but help. Black Panther recently shifted its release date and will be released on February 16, 2018.
