RUMOR: Disney Planning To Re-Release Theatrical Cuts Of The Original ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy

It appears we have some exciting news for you, Star Wars fans! Last night, at the 25th annual Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando, An American Werewolf in London director John Landis let loose seemingly out of nowhere some really cool Star Wars news during a Q&A session. According to Empire Magazine’s Twitter feed, Landis dropped the news that Disney is planning on re-releasing theatrical cuts of the original Star Wars trilogy, which means you’ll get to watch and own your own Blu-Ray copies of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi the way they were originally released! Here’s what Empire tweeted;

So, it sounds like Landis got this news from a discussion his old pal George Lucas! Now, this exciting bit of news has yet to be confirmed by Disney, but if all of this is a misunderstanding and the original Star Wars trilogy is not getting a theatrical re-release, then let’s just say Landis will have let a lot of people down. I mean, who cares if the trilogy isn’t digitally re-mastered to look younger for Blu-Ray? All we want to see is Han shooting first, not Greedo in glorious high definition! And who knows, Disney might have plans to put the original trilogy back in theaters? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for more Star Wars news as we have it!
