Word has it that Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, the sequel to 2014’s comedy hit Neighbors, has added former Disney star Selena Gomez to its already-impressive cast. Gomez, best-known for her role on Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place and her role in Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers, is expected to play a rival to Chloë Grace Moretz, who is playing a sorority leader that’ll be running up against the rookie parents next door played once again by Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne.
It’s pretty clear that distributor Universal is targeting both ‘Neighbors’ films towards college-age adults with both films featuring an ensemble of popular mid 30’s-or-under actors that are appealing to that age demographic. It makes sense, after all, considering both films are collegiate comedies.
Also on board ‘Sorority Rising’ are familiar faces Zac Efron and Dave Franco, who are both returning to the fray, while Nicolas Stoller returns to helm the sequel. Stoller and Rogen will share co-writing duties alongside Andrew Jay Cohen, Brendan O’Brien, and Evan Goldberg.
Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising moves into theaters May 20, 2016.
