With filming for the big-screen adaptation of the wildly popular Assassin’s Creed video game franchise beginning on Monday, Yahoo has given us our first look at Michael Fassbender’s character in the film! Fassbender, who’ll be playing Callum Lynch, a completely new character to fans of the franchise, looks pretty awesome, I must say!
Fassbender’s Lynch won’t be the only never-before-seen character in the film, as this adaptation won’t be a direct adaptation of any game in the series, but a completely new story with characters we’ve never seen before in the games, all the while remaining in the same world that the series lived in. Lynch is described as a man who “discovers he’s a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.”
Here’s the full image of Fassbender in costume!
Joining Fassbender in Assassin’s Creed will be Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception), Michael Kenneth Williams (12 Years a Slave, The Road), and Ariane Labed (Before Midnight). Macbeth director Justin Kurzel will direct a screenplay by Macbeth screenwriter Michael Lesslie, as well as Exodus: Gods and Kings writers Bill Collage and Adam Cooper.
Assassin’s Creed hits theaters December 21, 2016.
