Kong: Skull Island is still filling out its cast, with the Universal/Legendary Pictures production targeting a late October start date. Today, it has been reported that the King Kong origin tale has added a recent franchise player to its impressive ensemble.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Fantastic Four star Toby Kebbell is negotiating to join Kong: Skull Island. The cast currently consists of Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson and Corey Hawkins, with Samuel L. Jackson and John C. Reilly circling roles. The film will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, with the studio recently hiring Jurassic World scribe Derek Connolly to do a rewrite.
This will mark Kebbell’s third collaboration with Legendary Pictures, following roles in Wrath of the Titans and the upcoming Warcraft. The actor can currently be seen in theaters in Fantastic Four, where he is criminally underused as Doctor Doom. Hopefully, his Skull Island role will be much more substantial. Also, Kebbell previously played the ape Koba in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, so he has some experience with cinematic monkey business.
Stay tuned for more news as we have it. Kong: Skull Island is set to hit theaters on March 10th, 2017.
