If you’re looking forward to next Fall’s Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, you ought to be excited about this casting news.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that True Detective star Colin Farrell has signed on to play Graves, a wizard that Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander runs into in New York. An experienced actor, Farrell is also known for his roles as Bullseye in 2003’s Daredevil, Jerry in 2011’s Fright Night remake, and Marty in 2012’s Seven Psychopaths.
‘Fantastic Beasts’ takes place 70 years before Harry Potter reads Newt’s book, which chronicles the witches and wizards of a secret community Newt gets to know while attempting to document magical creatures.
Redmayne and Farrell will be joined by Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) and Katherine Weatherson (Inherent Vice), as well as Alison Sudol and Dan Fogler. David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter films, will direct, while Potter producer David Heyman will produce the film alongside Potter author J.K. Rowling, who also wrote the film’s script.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is scheduled to hit theaters November 18, 2016.
